For the practise of Taijiwuxigong you can be at any level of physical fitness or state of health. It is a self-healing practise, which means that everyone is encouraged to understand and work with the main principles. Many common health complaints can be alleviated.
If you have particular considerations an initial discussion with me is advisable so that any modifications to exercises can be made or taken into account.
This work does develop into strong practise over time. You will be asked to make a reasonable amount of effort, however everyone will work at their own level, is encouraged to take breaks or pause if they need to and be realistic in their own work. There is a reasonable amount of standing in an ordinary session.
There is also a weekly class dedicated to complete beginners which is very gentle and gives you an opportunity to settle into the work at your own speed.
For the practise of Taiji Form, you will need to be able to stand for the duration of the class. Any limitations can be worked around but particular considerations should be discussed.
For the practise of Taiji 37 Standing Postures please be prepared to engage in some stronger physical work. The object is to work without tension but in exploring just that we will inevitably work up a sweat, be challenged and stretch our ability. You are always encouraged to remain self-directed, therefore tap into the motivation of working with the group and at the same time relax and take time out if you need to.
Wear loose and comfortable clothing.
Also, flat shoes - preferably cotton soled. Otherwise wear thick socks initially.
Jo takes a (fairly) regular order for T'ai Chi cotton soled shoes - so just ask at class.
Please post any questions you have to Jo so that we can add to the FAQ's page.
